The Food Police Are Not Far Behind

Watch out. "They" are coming after your fries. I remember conservatives saying this was coming down the road.

Three Cheers for 7-11

Dropping CITGO gas on principle. I'd like to shake that CEO's hand. I'm in the mood for a Slurpee!

A Psychological Profile of Bill Clinton

By Edith Efron here.

From November 1994. A little dated, but Bilbo seems to be in the news a bit these days. Just how he likes it.

The Fool In Me

"I must learn to love the fool in me the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries. It alone protects me against that utterly self-controlled, masterful tyrant whom I also harbor and who would rob me of human aliveness, humility, and dignity but for my fool."

Childish Namecalling

CHAVEZ CHARMS UN: CALLS BUSH 'THE DEVIL'

Revolutionaries are supposed to be provocative, annoying, say anything they want with little or no consequences in a free society. Freedom of speech and all that. Chavez is a naive petulant child, a gadfly... he could be dangerous too. I think things in the UN are out of control when a supposed head of state can name call like that in a supposedly dignified world body. Will Kofi Annan, as the leader of the UN, comment on such childish rhetoric? I won't hold my breath.

Pure Poetry

We heard the fireworks.
Rushed out to watch the sky.
Happy go lucky. Fourth of July.

How can you live in the Northeast?
How can you live in the South?
How can you build on the banks of a river when the flood water pours from the mouth?
How can you be a Christian?
How can you be a Jew?
How can you be a Muslim, a Buddhist, a Hindu?
How can you?

Weak as the winter sun, we enter life on earth.
Names and religion come just after date of birth.
Then everybody gets a tongue to speak,
and everyone hears an inner voice.
A day at the end of the week to wonder and rejoice.
If the answer is infinite light,
why do we sleep in the dark?

How can you live in the Northeast?
How can you live in the South?
How can you build on the banks of a river when the flood water pours from the mouth?
How can you tattoo your body?
Why do you cover your head?
How can you eat from a rice bowl, the holy man only breaks bread?

We watched the fireworks,
'til they were fireflies.
Followed a path of stars, over the endless skies.

How can you live in the Northeast?
How can you live in the South?
How can you build on the banks of a river when the flood water pours from the mouth?

I've been given all I wanted.
Only three generations off the boat.
I have harvested and I've planted.
I am wearing my father's old coat.
