Move Over YouTube

...now there's PhilTube.

I think this has "favorites" potential. Phil blogs too.

The Doctor is No Longer In

The Corporate Shrink at Fast Company Magazine has taken down his shingle. It was good reading, when I did, for my line of work.

Insightful cartoonist.

The Rage Curve

Bush Signs Mexico Fence Deal

He signed it. Read about it here.

Apparently a 700 mile fence was authorized. Will it ever be done?

Prediction: This fence deal will be a total goat rope. If the Big Dig in Boston was a fiasco, just wait. Watch all the fun regarding the federal government building a fence on our border with Mexico.

I plan to provide periodic updates on how the fence project is going.

Tigers II

I'm posting this pix since the blogger bitch would not let me post it in the previous post. Nothing, no nothing, is perfect. But it worked this time. Go figure.

Update: Tigers continued their winnnng streak tonight beating the Northside Bears 14-0. They remain unscored upon. Son stopped two 4th down runs within the opposing team's 10 yard line to prevent touchdowns. It was awesome to witness the Tigers tonight.

Tiger Football

My 12-year-old son plays tackle football. This is his second year. He's the smallest on the team. I refused to let him play before last year because I didn't believe that he should or that youth football even made sense. Too dangerous... etc.

I am so proud of my boy because he prevailed over me. He so wanted to be out there playing so I said what the hell. Go for it. He totally loves it. He is on first team defense and second string offense. He is on all the kicking teams or as we used to call them, "the suicide squads."

Anyway, I couldn't be more proud of my young man. He's out there because he chose to be without an ounce of encouragement from me. He wanted it. Probably what football is all about. Go Tigers!!!

Here is his coach's "quote" from the team's website last week:

Coaches Quotes

Well, we got it done Monday night just like I knew we would.. I am proud of you guys !! We went out there to dominate and that's what we did.. We are now 5-0.. That’s a great accomplishment!! I ask you to stay humble and true because it’s not over. We will be tested again next week by the Northside Bears.. They will come at us hard, but we will come back at them harder.. Just play hard and win easy, then we will be 6-0. We can do it, there is no doubt in my mind that we can. We can only beat ourselves and we will not let that happen, RIGHT?? I want to thank Coach Pops and Coach Schwenker for all your help.. I know without you guys this could not be possible.. Thank you.. Tigers... Don't get the big head because it’s not over yet.. We still have a ways to go.. When I was playing at your age (not so long ago), ong thing I can remember one of my coaches saying is there are two kinds of discipline: self-discipline and team discipline. You need both. Back then I didn't understand but as I got older, it came to me. We have that already and you guys don’t even know it yet, That's a good thing !!!
Get some rest and I'll see you Wednesday. Be ready to go because we're going to be in a real hardcore battle next week, they're going to give us a battle and we're going to give them a WAR..
Take it easy Champs and get some rest...

It is awesome to have other men in his life that can be an inspiration to him like this. Recall that

I said my boy started on defense....They have held their opponents to no (zero, nada, zip) points so far in 5 games. 5 consecutive shutouts.

You Don't Need What We Think You Don't Need

If you read Dutch, yes you can get a bible that has edited out all kinds of verses. Edited as in literally cutting them out of the book and leaving the blank spaces there. Verses that may make us uncomfortable while reading. Read all about it.

This Guy Says He's Jesus Christ

And he said that he used to be St. Paul at one time. I guess, until he became Jesus. Learn more about him here.

Hopelessness for the Hopeful

You can see my post below on diversity which sort of hints of how differences between cultures can be irreconcilable, but I stumbled upon this today in a book that I have at work for bathroom reading. As far as the "West" and Islam, or Christianity and Islam, or any other deeply rooted cultures actually being able to understand and respect each other, read this and weep:

Edward Hall writes that it is impossible for us to divest ourselves of culture, for it has penetrated to the roots of our nervous system and determines how we perceive the world. We cannot act or interact except through the medium of culture. Thus Whitehead could write of 'fundamental assumptions' unconciously presupposed by all the variant systems within an epoch. People do not know that they are tacitly assuming, for no other way of putting things has ever occured to them; they are always responding to 'obvious facts'."

Joseph Chilton Pearce, from: The Crack in the Cosmic Egg

If anyone could help us, it would be God. But the Tower of Babel story appears to have been derived from what the people saw around them at the time. That is not good news either.

Foley: "I am always getting the shaft ... "

I'll bet. Quote found here.

Harvard Study Paints Bleak Picture of Ethnic Diversity

Apparently this guy that did the study is a well respected sociologist. It will be interesting to see how the study is received when it comes out in full.

Khameini: Don't Masturbate During Ramadan

I'd actually like to give it up forever! ;-O Story here.

As one nineteenth century medical dictionary warns: "However secret the practice... it leaves an indelible mark." Further back, in the 18th century, when expressions of "imagination, solitude, and excess became newly important and newly worrisome," masturbation was seen as representing a lack of self-discipline, "emblematic of all that was beyond social surveillance."

Boys Will Be Boys

Raquel Welsh, 66 today. I suppose you could say that she was my first... "sex symbol."

From Wikipedia: Welch was born Jo Raquel Tejada in Chicago, Illinois, the oldest of three children born to Armando Carlos Tejada and Josephine Sarah Hall. Her father was a Bolivian immigrant who was an aerospace engineer, and her mother was an Irish-American.[1]

GOP Talking Points On Foley

The Gay Old Party is trotting out all the bad stuff from the past that was probably worse than what Rep. Foley did. They are like children talking back to their mother when they get caught doing something bad when they say .... "But look what Bill (Clinton) did!!!" "Look what Barney (Frank) did!!!" Americans have short memories. And we always move on from scandals in the past. So bringing them up is just a smokescreen for damage control.

It would be worth watching this video of Repubs blowing that smoke. Here.

Here's An Idea - Let's Form A Bi-Partisian Commission!

"Bernanke: Baby Boomers Will Strain U.S."

What news!!!!

The card illustration above should have the signature of : "I.M. Screwed"

What's the use. I actually wonder if I'll even see a penny of what I paid into my whole working life.

Everybody has known this for at least 15 years now and nothing, nothing has been done. Well, yeah, they did increase the retirement age for us. Congress won't even let 2% of our FICA tax be put into an account that I can manage. Things will not get done until there is a crisis that politicians can hide behind that will drive a solution.

Story here.

Imploding

The president's spokesman Tony Snow downplays Foley scandal as 'naughty emails.' So he speaks for the president right? See the video here.

Shame on him.

And we'll see about that.

Update 10.4.06: President's spokesman comes off his high horse: Snow: "Well, again, Mark Foley has resigned; it's an all awfully disturbing story and members of the House of Representatives are going to be taking a look at it."

Say What You Will ...

about all of Vox Day's opinions, but I'm with him on this one. I have VD's blog under my favorites to the right.

Dictionary Time - Ephebophilia

Ephebophilia

Ephebophilia (in Greek 'ephebos' έφηβος = teenager and 'philia' φιλία = friendship), also known as hebephilia, is the condition in which an adult is dependent on sexual attraction to adolescents. It is a chronophilia, i.e. belongs to a group of paraphilias of the stigmatic or eligibilic type in which the paraphile's sexuoerotic age is discordant with his or her actual chronological age and is concordant with the age of the partner. Pederasty is the attraction to male adolescents. Lolita syndrome is the attraction to female adolescents.

Foley / Page-boy Sex Scandal

What did the Repulicans know and when did they know it? Dems will take the House in November. Welcome to the throne Speaker Pelosi.

Anthony Kennedy - Supreme Court Spoiler

I predict: he'll go all liberal on us. Story here.

A U.S. Congressman Hard At Work.

Literally. Read it and weep.

"Ironically, Foley, who is 52 and single, could be found to have violated a law that he helped to write as co-chairman of the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus."

At least there isn't some current wife out there having to deal with this. It is a fact that guys like this often have facades as moral crusaders against things that they may be doing in the shadows of their lives.

"Thou dost protest too much."

Update: Foley enters rehab. Probably needs it.
