Christmas Creep

(Wal Mart Store 1556)

The Consumerist has the evidence of how ridiculous retailers can be in putting out their Christmas displays and products entirely too too soon. Makes us all sick of "the holidays" before they even get here. Crass commericalism defined. Makes me want to start making gifts for people myself and avoiding them all together. I recall making cool little sail boats out of walnut shells as a kid... We'd float them on water flowing down our gutters. You'd like one of those from me wouldn't you? Especially if given from the heart?

Happy Halloween!

Very cool concept. I've put it in my favorites to the right.

From The Lips of Hillary!

"We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

"It's time for a new beginning, for an end to government of the few, by the few, and for the few … and to replace it with shared responsibility for shared prosperity."
"(We) can't just let business as usual go on, and that means something has to be taken away from some people."

"We have to build a political consensus, and that requires people to give up a little bit of their own … in order to create this common ground."

"I certainly think the free market has failed."

"I think it's time to send a clear message to what has become the most profitable sector in (the) entire economy that they are being watched."

One Thing He Couldn't Escape

Harry Houdini died on the afternoon of Halloween, October 31, 1926.

Starbucks Loathes This Guy

Davido was just looking for a break. He cut a song about Starbucks called the Java Jitter in the hope that he would make it big selling it at all Starbucks stores. He was rejected by corporate. So he attempts to perform it in Starbucks stores live with a colorful cast and crew to say the least. Under the circumstances the Official Starbuck Rejection Tour Video is quite quite good. Look for the background gospel singers. Nice touch Davido! You can access the video at Java Jitter.

Instapundit pointed me to how the University of Delaware is using the dormitory system to get up close and personal with their students to determine whether they are thinking "correctly" about issues. Check out some of the documents that this FIRE site has posted. Although it is completely un-PC to say, it's all there in black and white for anyone who takes the time to check it out. It is completely unbelievable what is expected of an RA (Dormitory Resident Advisor) at Delaware, a public institution! I was one of those for two years during college. I wonder if my alma mater is expecting the same bullshit of their RAs.

David Horowitz is a new hero of mine and he has been fighting this indoctrination trend in colleges for some time now. This former leftist radical would just like college professors to educate with equal time for points of view than their own. With the reception he gets at colleges and universities these day, apparently that is too much to ask. He has written two books about this phenomenon, Indoctrination U and The Professors.

Some Head(s) Should Roll For This

FEMA's fake news conference. The best and the brightest serve in Washington D.C. we are told.

Facinating!

Paula Bernstein (left) and Elyse Schein were reunited in 2004, when they were 35. They are authors of a new memoir, Identical Strangers.

Story here. Check out the photo gallery.

When you put in your salary, make sure you include decimals. I put in $50K like this: 50000.00 and got the results above.

Van Morrision - Dweller On The Threshold

From his Beautiful Vision album in 1982. I recall being out to sea in 1982 and the ship's store had a copy of this album on cassett. I got it and i just loved this song. Spiritual. I had become a true fan my senior year in college a couple of years earlier and getting this album was like reuniting with an old friend thousands of miles from home and far far away from my college years.

They've put out two double album's of VM's music this year, Greatest Hits III and The Best Of. Van the Man has staying power and if you haven't kept up, you will enjoy these albums. Promis

The 60's

Interesting little montage about the decade where our country went from relative innocence to outright madness. Worth watching. Lots of memories. Least I can say, "I was there."

The county middle school football title went to the SMS Rams last night. They dominated the losing Lions 42-7. Wonder boy got to play and enjoyed all 15 seconds of his time in the game.

Tis The Season

If there was a photographic equivalent of a Grammy, and Emmy, a Tony etc. for Halloween photography this one would at least get nominated I'd bet. Or if there was a Top 100 out there. Sonny boy is the warlock on the right with his good friend playing the Miami Dolphin. Check the look on his face out!

The Professor and Mary Ann

A UCLA psychology (surprise, surprise) professor argues that "romance" (he says the word over and over again) between professor and students should not be disallowed on college campuses. People are free to make their own judgement about his point of view of course. But my view is: beyond all his arguments and justifications and constitutional rights, blah, blah, blah, he just wants young tail and lots of it.

Another taboo that some want to sweep into the dustbin of history.

But for this guy, he portrays it all in sentimental terms of "true love" and romance, romance, romance...

HT: Heard about this on Rush L. today and googled.

New Louisiana Gov

Bobby Jindal was elected Governor of LA yesterday. First Indian - American to be elected governor in the U.S. He is also the youngest governor in the country now. He is a wonderkind. He was the head of Louisiana's Department of Hosptials in the 90's at the age of 24 or close to that. I lived down there then and since I have left he was elected to the U.S. congress. He takes 0ver from Kathleen Blanco who was infamous for her handling of the Katrina disaster.

It will be interesting to see how BJ runs things. Interesting that a state like LA elected him. One might think that a southern very rural state would not support an ethnic politician like Jindal. But they did, so there. Watch and see what transpires down there the next four year.

Rams Win

My one and only's team eked out a victory tonight against their cross-town rivals. They go to the middle school county championshhip game for all the marbles next week. My son has not seen much playing time as a seventh grader but he is paying his dues to be recognized next year. He was one of 8 seventh-graders to make the team. Pix are of him here and his brave buds supporting the Rams tonight.

Mr. Perfect is close to the smallest on the team but learned from a coach of his a few years ago: "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog."

I could not be prouder of my son. He's played football for three years now only because he wants to be out there. He never got encouragement to play from me, due to my belief that tackle football could not be healthy for young kids. I finally gave in and here he is.

What a heart, what a competitor, what a good kid!

Joe Tells Georgio to Stick It

I admire a man who will turn down $5M in salary plus a performance bonus. It is clear that the buck should stop at Torre with the talent that the Yankees always amass. But it has to feel good to tell Steinbrenner to FOff. I'm betting that Torre lands on his feet.
