Don't Tell Me There Is Nothing

to the House of Bush - House of Saud close relationship.

"America" is willing to do anything for a buck. Our government clears the way for our nuclear industry to make a killing (profit-wise) and which, down the road, may lead to killing us. Are deals like this really important to our long term national security?

What are we getting from them?:
sky-rocketing oil prices.
A country that is a breeding ground for our future mortal enemies.
Medieval thinking (at best) regarding religion, the role of women, government, law.
Oh, and yes, the burquini. Doesn't that just get your heart a-pound'n?

Can anyone help me understand in 500 words or less what Saudi Arabia does for us that is in the long term interest of these United States and our future security and prosperity? I will attempt to understand with an open mind any reasonable thesis.

Burquini: OMG!!!

Did you hear this story on NPR this morning about the small town that's suing Saudi Arabia over another sweetheart deal? (I can't answer your question but I can add fuel to the fire!)

The only earthly thing I can think of that the Saudi Kingdom is good for regarding us, is that it has to be better than what would take over if it was overthrown. With no democratic tradition there, there's no way a peaceful transition to representational democracy could take place. There would be a violent overthrow. The royal family is yanking our tender regions because they can--and because it knows that whoever took over from them would not only yank; they would surgically remove. We need to be careful of what we wish for, e.g., democratic Palestinian elections.
