I have spent the entire day boarding up windows, cleaning gutters, picking up yard items, and packing what I can to evacuate. My son Blake and his girlfriend left tonight at 10pm. I have to work tomorrow to help close the hotels at 10am. I plan to evacuate by 5pm tomorrow(Sunday). This storm really looks bad for my area. However, I have been playing with google and the places the surge went for Katrina. The farthest I estimated the surge went inland from Katrina was about 8 miles. I am about 10 miles from the nearest open water so that give me hope. This hope also hangs in the balance of an intra-costal canal levee that is about 2 miles from my house, it must also hold to keep my house safe. They say this storm may be bigger than Katrina, hard to imagine especially when it seems as if Katrina was just not to long ago. This time I have packed most of my guns, pictures off the walls, along with the regular items I took for Katrina. I have also put a lot of stuff in my attic. I am taking both cars and my boat this time as well.
