I like trees and grass as much as the next guy but can't we engage in environmental improvements without the end of the world looking over our shoulder?

Just goes to prove even the boomers aren't monolithic. When some of us were curious about SDS (commie pinko Students for a Democratic Society) others were already firmly entrenched in YAF (Young Americans for Freedom). We were the ones with long hair. They were the ones attending class in suits and ties. In the 60s. Back then I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. Now they are only too visible and too loud.
Ralph - you just brought me back about a thousand years!
Yep - the "freaks" had their blue denim workshirts, bells, work boots and - generally speaking - long hair. The YAF were always in shirt and tie either crewcut or brylcreemed.
Was never a fan of SDS myself although I got curious after reading The Strawberry Statement. Worked for an "underground" paper for a while but the "movement" was just a curiosity for me.
I don't think the "tea baggers" are any louder than the counter cultural movement of the 60's. Nixon, Spiro Agnew, John Mitchell and even Judge Hoffman (The Chicago Seven trial judge) were burned in effigy on more than one anti-war march.
Heck - even got tear gassed on one of the Marches on Washington.
It's all a matter of perspective. Power changes hands - but the nature of protest remains the same.
Oh - and the weed was a whole lot cheaper back then. Also. :)
