Reason To Rampage

From this radio story today on the subject of the "underemployed."

Deborah Stitt is a recruiter in Cleveland.

DEBORAH STITT: People are really taking a step back, saying, OK, you know, 10 years ago I did that. I can do that again.

With so many people both out of work and underemployed, Stitt says companies can be harsh.

STITT: I have employers that say, "Don't send me anyone that's unemployed. Don't want to talk to them." Right or wrong, that's the thinking, because they think good employees are not laid off.

"That's the thinking."

That's the thinking?

That's being generous to call such idiocy "thought" at all.

So, E. wonders, are the bright lights that are saying such things "HR professionals," hiring managers, or company executives or all of the above?

Whomever they are, they best start running if they see E. coming.

The thing is the hammer can fall at anytime, deserved or not. Numbers are numbers and people are people. There are a lot of good people shit upon by what could be construed as good companies that are caught up in the numbers game. A lot of very good people, through no fault of their own, are being put in the position of defending their professional worth. In these days of AIG sucking off the government tit and then bonusing themselves as if they actually did something, you can hardly blame the workers for reaching for the ol' pitchfork.
